WISE Doppler Current Log System
Optimised oil spill recovery and maritime towing efficiency.
The WISE Doppler Current Log measures the speed through the water of towed devices such as oil recovery booms or skirt booms. Built for harsh marine environments, it gives real-time data to optimise towing speed, improve operational efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

Key features
Accurate speed measurement
Precise towing speed, to optimise oil recovery operations.
Robust design
Built to handle the challenges of the marine environment.
In-sea and on board
In-sea and vessel-mounted components work together for data collection and visualisation.
System overview
How the system is put together
The measurement is made in the sea by a buoy-mounted sensor and sent by radio to the vessel, where it is displayed for the people running the tow.
In the sea
In-sea components
- Doppler Log Buoy, with a radio transmitter and antenna (870 MHz) for reliable data transmission
- Doppler Log Sensor (ADCP), for precise measurement of water speed
- Underwater cable, with strain relief and secure connectors for uninterrupted operation
On the vessel
Vessel-mounted components
- Receiver unit, receiving data from the buoy, with master and slave configurations
- WISE Doppler Log Software, displaying real-time data for operational decisions
- Receiver antenna, on a secure rail bracket for stable reception
- Waterproof cases, for safe transport and storage
Applications
Wherever the speed of a towed device through the water decides how well the operation works.
- Oil spill recovery: minimise spillage and maximise efficiency during critical recovery operations.
- Environmental monitoring: accurate towing data to support compliance with environmental standards.
- Maritime towing: monitor towing speed in real time to optimise vessel operations.
In the field
Proven in demanding conditions
The Doppler Current Log has been deployed in demanding environments, including on specially designed buoys for towing applications.
Where to next
The WISE Doppler Current Log sits in MetOcean and Weather Monitoring, one of six monitoring areas WISE Group delivers. It is supplied as a system in its own right, and within a wider MetOcean scope where current measurement is one part of the requirement.
