MetOcean and weather monitoring

Forecasting Weather Systems

Your site’s own weather data, shared securely with the forecast provider you choose.

A forecast for a lift, a transfer or a marine operation is better when it is built on what is actually happening at the asset. WISE Group collects the local weather data from your sensors and makes it available, securely, to specialist weather forecasters.

The data flows from site to our Orbalux cloud platform, and forecast providers pull it through a secure API into their own models. The link from site to Orbalux is set up once, as part of the monitoring system. After that, adding a forecast provider is an access change in Orbalux, not a new firewall opening or integration project for your IT team.

What it gives you

Forecasts built on your data

Forecasters work from measured conditions at your site, not only from regional models.

Your provider, your choice

The same data can be shared with the forecast provider you choose to work with.

No new IT project

Once the site data reaches Orbalux, adding a forecast provider is an access change, not a new connection through your network.

Secure, controlled sharing

Encrypted, outbound-only connections from site, and access granted per provider and per site, at the asset owner’s request.

How it works

One data flow from sensor to forecaster. WISE Group looks after the measurement, the collection and the secure sharing. The forecast provider does what it does best: turning local data into a local forecast.

1

Measured and collected on site

The sensors of your weather station or MetOcean system measure the local conditions. Our DADAS system collects the data and displays it on site.

2

Shared through Orbalux

DADAS connects out from site to a dedicated MQTT broker, a SOC 2 compliant cloud messaging service that adds its own layer of security. From there the data enters Orbalux and is made available through APIs, with access per provider and per site at the asset owner’s request.

3

Pulled into the forecast models

The forecast provider collects the local data from Orbalux through a secure API and brings it into its own systems, alongside its weather models.

4

Local forecast delivered

The provider calculates a forecast for your site, corrected by what is actually measured there, and delivers it to your team under its own service.

The same data flow serves your own operations too: live readings on site in DADAS, and dashboards and history in Orbalux.

Working with forecast providers

We are not a forecaster, and we do not tie you to one. Our part is getting reliable local data to the forecaster you work with, in a form their systems can use.

Orbalux has open APIs for integration with third-party systems, and controlled data sharing with customers, partners and authorities is built in. Access is granted per provider and per site, at the asset owner’s request.

Why share your weather data through WISE Group

Data where forecasters need it

Local measurements reach the forecast provider automatically, without manual exports or files sent by email.

Easier to procure

Buy the forecast service directly from the provider, knowing the data link is already in place.

Security handled

Encrypted, outbound-only connections through a SOC 2 compliant MQTT broker, certificate-based authentication, and a cloud platform operated within the EU under WISE Group’s control.

One set of sensors

The sensors that serve operations, helideck and reporting also feed the forecast. Nothing extra to install on the asset.

Measurement first

MetOcean and weather monitoring

The forecast is only as good as the data behind it. Our Environmental Monitoring Systems measure wind, sea state and currents at the asset.

Where to next

Forecasting sits in MetOcean and weather monitoring. Forecast data is most useful alongside measurement from the asset itself.

Useful to include

  • The site or platform
  • The forecast provider you use, or are considering
  • What is measured on the asset today
  • Whether the site already sends data to Orbalux

What happens next

1

We check what the asset measures and how its data leaves the site.

2

We set up the data flow through DADAS and Orbalux, if it is not already in place.

3

We give your forecast provider secure API access to the data.
